2015: Richard MacDonald: red Exhibition
Richard MacDonald: Red Solo Exhibition toured various locations in USA and traveled to several other countries. The exhibit features 42 bronzes, from quarter life to heroic, together with original drawings from throughout the artist’s career, all united within the exciting energy of the color red.
"The color red in my work excites me.
It is the most stimulating color in human psychology.
Its meaning and emotional responses are complex and diverse, controlling and liberating.
Red is energy, love, hyper-sensuousness, happiness, and good fortune.
Along with the forms, the beauty, the concepts, and the psychology, it entices the freedom of the human spirit.
The color red permeates humanity and stimulates optimism.
Red is joy and sensuousness – the very color that runs through our veins. Our very life force."
- Richard MacDonald
Over a period of years, MacDonald invented a new technique to accomplish the red color bronze patina. It presents a profoundly exciting new direction in his career. All of the exhibition art pieces initiated the technique that later evolved into a deep exploration of the role that color plays in the artist’s figurative sculpture.
